Pool & Spa Electrical Services

Electrical work for pools, hot tubs and the equipment that runs them, from new installations and upgrades to troubleshooting.

Electrical work for pools and hot tubs

Pool and spa electrical is part of our residential electrical services. The work we do includes:

  • —Pool and spa electrical connections
  • —Equipment power
  • —Troubleshooting
  • —Upgrades to support new equipment

Why an electrical assessment comes first

New pool or spa equipment adds load, and the right connection depends on the existing panel, the service and the layout of the yard. We assess the electrical system first so the work is scoped to what the property can support.

Ontario electrical safety requirements

Pool and spa electrical installations have specific requirements for equipment placement, grounding, bonding and ground-fault protection. The exact requirements depend on the installation.

ESA's Homeowner Electrical Safety Handbook includes a section on pool and hot tub safety. For technical details, refer to ESA and the Ontario Electrical Safety Code rather than relying on a general summary.

In Ontario, almost all electrical work requires a notification of work with ESA. ESA also states that if you hire someone to do electrical work in your home, by law it must be a Licensed Electrical Contractor.

Planning a new pool or hot tub

Bring the electrical work into the plan early, alongside the rest of the project timing. ESA advises checking minimum clearances from overhead powerlines with your local utility before placing a pool or hot tub.

We do not supply pools or hot tubs. Our work is the electrical side of the project.

Where we work

We serve Guelph, Puslinch, Rockwood and Fergus, and the other communities on our service areas page. Saturday and Sunday appointments on request.
